The Mix A Meal mixes save me a lot of time and money. My favorite recipe is the bread mix. I take it one step further by combining all of the dry ingredients except for the yeast in a one-quart canning jar. On my day off I make up three-to-four quarts of instant bread, then when I am in a real hurry I am two minutes away from having a batch of bread running in my bread machine. It’s so easy, my nine-year-old granddaughter can do it all by herself.

I have adapted some of my favorite recipes so that I can make mixes for them. It is a real time saver and is really convenient and easy. Here is the recipe I use:

Instant Bread
Layer dry ingredients in a one-quart, wide-mouth canning jar:
3 c. flour
¼ c. bread mix
½ t. dough enhancer

Put lids on then set aside for use at a later time.

In bread machine pan add:
1¼ c. water
1 qt. instant bread
2 t. yeast

Press start.

Here is a recipe for Mickey Mouse Pancakes followed by a mix recipe:

Mickey Mouse Pancakes (official Disneyland recipe)
2 c. flour
2 T. sugar
1 t. baking soda
1 t. (heaping) salt
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. buttermilk
3 T. melted butter

Mix together. I like thinner pancakes so I thin the batter down with more buttermilk or milk or water.

Food Storage Mickey Mouse Pancakes
2 c. flour
2 T. sugar
1 t. baking soda
1 t. (heaping) salt
4 T. whole egg powder
½ c. powdered buttermilk
3 T. powdered butter
2 ½ + c. water

I don’t usually measure the water. I just keep adding it until the batter is about the right consistency.

I have been using the Mix A Meal Cookbook for years. What attracted me the most
in the beginning was that I could prepare quick, easy, delicious meals while avoiding the
additional chemicals and preservatives added to prepackaged mixes at the store. In
addition, I soon discovered that using these recipes saved money, time, and waste.
Buying some of the basic ingredients such as flour, sugar, dehydrated butter, milk,
shortening, and any additional favorites in bulk also meant fewer trips to the grocery
store. I never have to worry about not having fresh milk to make white sauce or running
out of syrup for pancakes on a cold winter morning.

The Mix a Meal cookbook is the best! Being able to make my own, fresh, mixes is a bonus. Having them shelf stable is wonderful. The old make your own mixes had to be stored in the Fridge.

I have 12 grandchildren and they love having cookies on demand. Never have to worry about not having the ingredients to make a batch. As long as I have water and an oven cookies are on the menu.

Once in Relief Society we were making our own "cheesy bread". By rolling or patting out the dough on cookie sheets. Spreading a little margarine and sprinkling with grated parmasean cheese. The aroma filled the building as it baked. And soon the entire High Counsel were in the kitchen.

Now that I am on my own I still keep several mixes in the pantry. I feel a lovely senmse of satisfaction knowing they are there ready for me anytime.

There are so many ways to use this book and it's contents. Thank you so much for so much. Great things really do come in small packages!

I just want to thank you for this cookbook. I have tried for 40 years to make a decent biscuit--mine were always either hard as rock or totally tasteless--but now I consistently make perfect biscuits with your mix. I've never tried to make rolls (with my aforementioned luck with biscuits), but after trying the biscuit mix I gave a rolls a try ... WOW they are delicious! I decided to try the gravy today (to go on the biscuits) ... it was another winner. The mixes are so easy to prepare and it is great when you are short on time to just throw a couple of cups of mix and some water and you have the start of a really good meal.

My husband is so thankful I found this book too! Now I can cook like his mom did ... only easier.

Try this book and you will be hooked!
